Merchants know that photos are an important part of ecommerce — whether as product images or just for site design. This makes image editors equally important. 5 Free Web-Based Photoshop Alternatives. Photo: Auntie P. For many designers, Photoshop is the only graphics program that will ever cut it. But while Photoshop unquestionably offers a lot, it’s. Unfortunately, not everyone has the money to spend on expensive graphics suites like Adobe Photoshop. And others don’t want to learn complicated image editing software. Luckily, there are plenty of free — or nearly free — graphics applications that allow you to do many of the things you’d commonly do in Photoshop, but without paying that high price. The downside to so many free graphics programs is determining which ones are worth your time. Set up outlook email on mac. I’ve combed through many free image editors to bring you my four favorite Photoshop alternatives that will work for both beginners and seasoned graphic designers. GIMP GIMP is probably the most popular free image editor, and usually the first program you will hear about when looking for Photoshop alternatives. ![]() It is available for both Windows and Mac OSX and is intended primarily for image retouching and editing. GIMP has many tools for simple image editing tasks like resizing, cropping, and color correcting. But it also has some of the same tools you would find in Photoshop, such as the clone stamp tool and the burn and dodge tool. This makes it great for editing and retouching product photos. If you’re already used to the layout and feel of Photoshop, GIMP’s workspace is customizable and you can rearrange it to come very close to Photoshop’s default layout. If you’re completely new to image editors, GIMP does have a slight learning curve to master, especially for some of its more advanced functions. But if you’re familiar with other graphics programs, GIMP should be easy to pick up. Available for Windows and Mac. Paint.NET What started as a simple replacement for Microsoft’s Paint program — bundled with Windows — grew into Paint.NET, a powerful yet simple image editor. This graphics program comes with all the basics for image editing and retouching in a very intuitive user interface that makes it good for beginners. Paint.NET also has some more advanced tools, like the clone stamp. And hundreds of plugins are available to push Paint.NET even further. I especially recommend Paint.NET if you’re a Windows user and you are new to image editors – it almost feels like a “super” MS Paint. ![]() Or, if you’re familiar with image editors and just want something simple to get the job done, Paint.NET fits the bill. Windows only. Aviary Aviary is a free web-based suite of multimedia applications developed by Worth1000. The Aviary image editor, Phoenix, has some helpful features that are easy to use and make the software simple to learn. Phoenix’s functionality ranges from simple image editing to complex effects. Other programs in the Aviary suite, like Raven, help with more than simple image editing. Becoming familiar with the Aviary’s image editors would also make it easy to pick up other programs in the Aviary suite later on. Because Aviary is a web-based suite, you can access it from any computer with Internet access and save all of your work online. Having used Photoshop for most of my career, it took me a while to get used to the way Aviary splits things like advanced effects and color picking into separate applications. I’m used to having those features in a single application. But once I got past the separation of features, I now know that Aviary’s image suite stacks up against any other image editor. Online application for Windows and Mac. Photoshop Express Photoshop Express is Adobe’s free online image editor that offers some basic tools for editing and retouching. It’s an effective way to adjust product images and other photos. You won’t find the clone stamp tool or a long list of advanced effects here, but you will find some great beginner tools to edit and fine-tune a photo. Photoshop Express supports only JPG images, but the application is still being developed and more features will likely be added in the future.

While those articles focused on Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac, this article will show what’s new and what’s different with Microsoft Word 2016 for Mac and how to accomplish the same goals outlined in those articles. For the most part, Word 2016 works just as Word 2011 does—how you create, edit, and style text remains the same. By the fall of 2016, I was comfortable switching to Word 2016 full time. When you first open Microsoft Word 2016, you’ll notice that it resembles Word 2011 but with a “flat” design (i.e., the three-dimensional, Aqua-inspired interface elements of earlier releases of macOS X are gone). The flat interface of Word 2016 (top), compared to Word 2011 (bottom). Word 2016 is also more compact, with commands in the Quick Access Toolbar found to the right of the Close/Minimize/Expand window widgets instead of below them, and with Paste, Cut, Copy, and Copy Formatting leading off the commands in the Home Tab. If you’ve ever used Word on Windows, this should look immediately familiar. As I discuss in my article, you can customize the commands and their arrangement in Word by customizing the “Normal” template. You’re invited to agonise over small choices and watch as their consequences snowball in unexpected directions. What can we say about this stupendously well-received RPG that you haven’t already heard? The Witcher 3 is a sprawling fantasy yarn set in a vast open world (or more precisely, several open worlds) packed with side quests and other optional tasks. Even if you forego the bits on the side, however, there’s dozens of hours of main line adventure awaiting you as you pull on the armour of Geralt, a gravel-voiced mutant and Witcher who makes his living hunting monsters but is now tracking a decidedly different quarry: his surrogate daughter. Brilliantly written, populated by engaging characters (several of which you can sleep with, should you be that way inclined) and rich with gritty, grimy atmosphere, The Witcher 3 brings a focus and personality to open world adventure that many outwardly similar RPGs ( Fallout 4 and Dragon Age Inquisition, for starters) simply can’t match. The two DLC add-ons are highly recommended too, but the base game has plenty for you to plough through first. If you want to get lost in another world for a few weeks, here’s your gateway. An indie game in which you pull on the (doubtless beige polyester) shirt and tie of a border control official in a fictional totalitarian state might not sound like much fun, but Papers, Please isn’t your average time-sink. At times, it feels more like a transportive experience than a form of entertainment. Don’t get us wrong; there are game mechanics here, and they’re solid – you have to check would-be immigrants’ documents against an ever-increasing list of rules and regulations, with mistakes punished in the form of docked wages, all the while battling against the clock – but they’re really there to further immerse the player into the mindset of a human being asked to become an unthinking cog in a hellish bureaucratic machine. And it’s when the game asks you to think – to bend or break those rules you’ve been given – that it becomes truly compelling. Had enough of combat, globe-trotting and intrigue? ![]() How’d you like to spend your evenings engaged in something a little more relaxing and gentle – while still retaining that dopamine-dumping gaming loop that ensures you’ll be playing long past midnight? Allow us to present Stardew Valley, a game in which you take over and run a dilapidated old farm; not a farm plagued by zombies, not a farm upon which an evil corporation wants to drill for oil – just a farm on the outskirts of a sleepy countryside town, with some land and a few buildings you can develop. As the seasons roll by, you’ll meet your neighbours – and maybe even fall in love and start a family. And don’t worry, this has far more in common with Harvest Moon than it does Farmville, concentrating on gently prodding you into being more productive rather than constantly chucking stuff in your face. Inspired by Jules Verne’s Around The World in Eighty Days but with a steampunk twist and possibly even more words to read, 80 Days is the perfect game for those seeking atmosphere and adventure – but who don’t have 100 hours to sink into a game such as The Witcher 3. You can sail (or drive, or elephant-ride) through a trans-global playthrough of this in little more than a couple of hours, and the beauty of it is that it’s very replayable.
